LIEGE TO LONDON AND BIRMINGHAM
[BIZ/LOG: Liège, February 1]
AER ARANN, a low-cost Irish airline is to start scheduled
flights between Liège Airport and London (LTN Luton), Birmingham (BHX) and Lorient (LRT
in Britanny). Flights to London and Birmingham will be twice daily except Saturdays, and
to Lorient daily Monday through Friday. The London and Lorient flights start at the
beginning of April and those to Birmingham at the beginning of May. Fares will be around
EUR 50 each way - although the precise figure has yet to be confirmed by the airline - and
will include airport taxes and cancellation insurance. Flight time is 1 hour and 30
minutes to London and 1 hour and 40 minutes to Birmingham and Lorient.
The aircraft used will be a 66-seater ATR 72-200, a twin-engined, turboprop short-haul,
regional airliner built in France by ATR (Avions de Transport Régional). Aer Arann, as
the name suggests, started life in 1970 with a service to the Arran islands. It opened its
Dublin base in 1998 and launched its services to mainland Europe in 2004. Annual revenues
run at EUR 94m and more than a million passengers were carried in 2005. The forecast for
2006 is 1.2m passengers. Check the web site for booking and details from February 3.
