CHEMELOT RAIL TERMINAL
[LOG: Sittard-Geleen, July 21] The rail terminal is, in the view of the municipality, essential for the future of Chemelot, but it would cause the home environment in Mauritspark to deteriorate and so the municipality wants to provide the homeowners with the opportunity to sell their homes. There has been a neutral response to this as many people are on vacation, but it was greeted with some surprise.
The municipality of Sittard-Geleen is going to buy 34 houses in the Mauritspark district. The houses will then have to make way for a rail terminal on the Chemelot site. The plans are under development and the municipality has asked the Ministry of Economy Affairs for a subsidy.
