Elia and RWE start planning the first electrical inter-connector between Belgium and Germany
• Belgian and German Transmission System Operators Elia and RWE Transportnetz Strom launch today the planning phase for the first direct electrical inter-connector between Belgium and Germany.
• The project will significantly contribute towards the development of the European market and increased access to a diversified energy mix for market participants.
• The new inter-connector will significantly improve system security in the region.
Belgian and German Transmission System Operators (TSOs) Elia System Operator and RWE Transportnetz Strom are today taking steps towards the concrete planning of an inter-connector between Belgium and Germany. This will be the first direct inter-connector between the two countries.
This new direct inter-connector will make an important contribution towards developing the European market and will deliver increased access to a diversified energy mix for market participants, including renewables and conventional power generation.
