The US technology distribution and services company, Avnet, is expanding its central distribution center EDC in the town of Tongres by an extra 10,000 square meters. The investment is worth ca. EUR 7m.

Avnet’s central distribution center in the town of Tongres houses both a pan-European distribution and logistics operation and an integration center, primarily for its EMEA customers. A wide range of high value-added integration and logistics services for Avnet’s business partners is delivered from the Tongres facility. The current expansion will bring the integration services area to 34,000 square meters.

In 2007, over eight million enterprise servers, storage devices, thin clients, wireless mobility devices and other information technology equipment components were shipped through the center. Avnet opened the Tongres facility in July 1999. Since then, it has been instrumental in Avnet's ability to serve customers throughout Europe.

Avnet is one of the largest distributors of electronic components, computer products and technology services and solutions with over 300 subsidiaries serving more than 70 countries worldwide. Avnet turned over in excess of EUR 10b in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007.
