MAASTRICHT-LIEGE RAIL LINK

ProRail has indicated that the Dutch part of the Maastricht-Liège rail line will be upgraded to meet the technical requirements of Belgian inter-city trains between both cities. The Belgian network is more up to date than the stretch between Maastricht and the border. The intercity SNCB (Belgian Rail) train on the Maastricht line has an environment-friendly, electrical regenerative braking system which feeds the electricity generated back into the supply system; Dutch Rail is not yet able to do this and this causes delays on the line.
