VOLAREWEB CUT BY ECOTAX
[LOG: Maastricht, January 16]
As we noted additionally in our last newsletter, the Italian low-cost airline Volareweb is to stop its flights to Malpensa, Milan, after March 31. The route was started up in October 2007. The passenger figures were rising, but had not yet become impressive. However, the deciding issue was the introduction of a Dutch eco-tax by July 31 which would amount to EUR 11.25 for passengers. This makes it more difficult to compete with nearby German and Belgian airports. The problem with this eco-tax has already been mentioned in connection with other airlines.
