BOENEN WANTS MINE WATER

[INFRA: Heerlen, October 13]
A lot of progress has been made on the mine water project ongoing in Heerlen and elsewhere, and this has attracted the city council from Bönen (Germany) who want to participate in the project.

Their participation will be analogous to Heerlen’s. Bönen plans to heat and cool several public buildings with mine water, these include: a school, a youth and sports center and an indoor swimming pool. Up to 100 homes may be included in the project as well.

The City of Heerlen, which leads the European project, has submitted a revised application for project funding to the European Union. One of the revisions concerns the addition of new partners to the project. These new partners are: the German city of Bönen, Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Kreis Aachen and BRGM (Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières). On November 7 the steering committee of Interreg IIIB NWE will decide on whether to approve the revised application.
