HYDRO POWER AT BORGHAREN

11,000 households in Maastricht will in the future be powered by a new hydro power plant on the River Meuse at Borgharen, north of Maastricht. The Arbra BV company from Bemelen has been granted a permit to build this plant. According to the Maastricht Councilor responsible for the Environment, Mr Hazeu, the hydro plant is a good solution for the municipality because it produces sustainable energy and reduces CO2 emissions, so the municipality is supporting the project. The new plant will be largely underground at the dam at Borgharen. Councilor Hazeu is keen to see that the system prevents unnecessary damage to fish stocks.
