HOGESCHOOL ZUYD EPC STANDARD
[EDU: Heerlen, July 23] Students Nadine Huids (construction), Marieke van den Goor (construction) and Peter de Gussem (technology) have developed an energy plan that has an EPC-norm of 0.1, including the photovoltaic installation. If the solar panels are not included then the EPC is 0.26. The three students are ahead of the rest of the country in this. In the Netherlands in 2011 the score will probably go down from 0.8 to 0.6 and in 2014 to 0.4, but the prizewinners in Heerlen in Avantis are ahead of the game.
Three students who achieved a prize for their ideas about the Tomorrow’s district demonstrated that the energy performance standard which expresses the energy efficiency of new buildings in a number based on the building’s characteristics, systems and behavior of its users, could be achieved. Buildings of this type would be more CO2 neutral than a property using conventional methods. An energy-efficient building that emits little or no CO2, saves water and creates less waste is good for the environment and saves on energy.
