RENAISSANCE MAN
[EDIT: Maastricht, December 29] This Gentleman and scholar, when not running his cutting-edge life-science company, might equally well be dashing off a sonnet, or rehearsing a Clarinet Sonata by Brahms. His breathtaking facility also includes very great gastronomic sophistication and the co-authorship of a cookbook, in the late 70s, with Maastricht’s inimitable Jacques Zeguers. He also assisted our Trencherman to form an opinion on a visit to Margot Reuten’s Da Vinci in Maasbracht, many moons ago. Clearly, at a time when Maastricht is seeking a special status in the gastronomic world, this former president of the university and key figure in cardiovascular research, might be the person to call upon.
Niveau Magazine’s December issue not only covers Meuse-Rhine with a splendid article on Visé and Basse Meuse and its customary bevy of vegetable-clad beauties, it also has an article by Jules de Limbourg on Maastricht’s true Renaissance man - Coen Hemker.
