THE FRANS WOLFS AWARD
[EDIT: Maastricht, October 10] In his memory, the Frans Wolfs medallion will be awarded to a person or institution, which maintains and supports the cultural link between the two cities in a notable way. This year’s candidates were: Epicuriales, a culinary fair, based on Maastricht’s Preuvenemint, which was held for the second time this year in Liège; ‘Luik, de dans en de arbeid, het vuur en zijn schoonheid’ by Math and Maxime van Even, a film about Liège; the activities of the Servatius housing association, which is building homes in the Province of Liège and linking the two cities; the Meuse-Rhine Journal was also nominated, but the winners were two primary schools: the Peroen in Maastricht and the Primary school in Wandre, which have been developing a school exchange program between the province of Liège and Maastricht.
The Frans Wolfs Award, or medallion was awarded for the first time at Maastricht’s city hall on October 10. Frans Wolfs, who ran an art gallery, Galerie Wolfs, in Maastricht, for very many years, died recently at a tragically young age. Frans devoted a great part of his professional and private life to developing cultural relations between Liège and Maastricht. Both cities, which shared in the heritage of principality, that lasted for almost 1000 years.
