NEW BUSINESS IN THE REGION
[BIZ: Aachen, August 20] The service area represented the largest number; 70% of the start-ups were in the service industries. This included hospitality, care, IT and a range of disciplines close to business that require less start-up capital. The chamber regards start-ups in the high tech sector as particularly worth developing and, in this area, there were 100 requests for advice in the same period of time. ‘We do clearly need more start-ups in this area because this is where innovation in business and long-term employment comes from’, said Schönberger. An obstacle for start-ups is, according to the chamber, insufficient funding or financing options and that it is why he appeals to the political establishment and says that if businesses start to dry up then we will need financial assistance to help with start-ups. In H1 2010, 560 start-ups came for advice to the Chamber of Commerce in Aachen; that’s 19% more than the year before. As far as start-ups are concerned, there seems to be a clear rise in interest and this is good. ‘It’s good that independent business is again becoming attractive’, said Christoph Schönberger of the chamber at the H1 founders meeting.
