EUR 3.7 M FOR DURABILITY
[BIZ/GOV: Brussels, July 22] The companies and the research centers that perform the research will contribute a total of EUR 3.9 million, making the total value of the 13 projects EUR 7.6 million. There are 2 types of projects in the MIP project call. Type 1 projects focus on R&D which should result in added value in the mid to long term, to make the Flemish economy more durable. Projects center on the closing of the material and process cycles. Examples of projects selected by MIP are the growing of algae for chemical and emission abatement, and the development of Cradle-to-Cradle flat screen televisions. Type 2 projects assess the feasibility of a product or service just before market launch. They also cover non-technical aspects such as legal, societal or health and safety. Examples of Type 2 projects that made the cut are the sanitation of soil through Phytoremediation and a feasibility study into the added value of residual heat in the Port of Antwerp.
The Environment and Energy technology Innovation Platform (MIP) has awarded 13 ‘green’ projects a total of EUR 3.7 million for research into durable technologies, products and services. The focus in these projects is on the Cradle-to-Cradle philosophy.
