HASSELT MANAGES CO2
[BIZ: Hasselt/London, January 21] The organization is committed to continuing and improving its service by building on international best practice, including the GHG protocol and the ISO14064, by reviewing and updating the Carbon Trust Standard methodology, and by ensuring the robustness of the assessments via a rigorous assessment and quality control process and by listening to feedback from customers and other stakeholders. The civil servant responsible for sustainability in Hasselt said: ‘To get the certificate we had to present a complex dossier and the Delta Advice study bureau has helped us do this over one year. We calculated the ecology footprint of the city and its buildings and we set up a program to reduce this. The footprint of Hasselt is 6,696.6 tons per year. Street light electricity 20% and 11% comes from transport. The footprint has dropped by 1.5% in one year. Vehicles are purchased on sustainability standards and electric charging points are provided for them.’
The city of Hasselt has received the Carbon Trust Standard in London. The standard is relevant to every organization, enabling them to tackle climate change by measuring, managing and actively reducing their own carbon footprint. This is done by inspiring and encouraging organizations to measure, manage and reduce their emissions. It is also done by providing an independent and reliable assessment of an organization’s action and commitment to ongoing measurement, management and reduction of its own carbon footprint. It is rewarded and recognized, and the organizations that achieve the Carbon Trust Standard are provided with a logo that can be used to communicate their achievements.
