BELGIAN NOKIA-SIEMENS

[BIZ: Brussels, November 4]
In the Nokia Siemens Networks in Belgium there is uncertainty about the consequences of the parent company’s drive to economize. Networks specialist, Nokia Siemens Networks, has announced that over a period of two years it wants to reduce costs by EUR 500m. This move would mean the loss of thousands of jobs worldwide. The network specialist, a joint venture between the mobile-telephone company Nokia and the Siemens group, wants to apply these economies to improve its financial performance and return to growth. It’s expected that 6–9% of staff will be affected by the cuts. Nokia Siemens Network employs 64,000, in Belgium the network specialists number 400. Details are expected.
