BELGACOM CELL PHONE LICENSE
[BIZ: Brussels, September 24] Belgacom had paid EUR 223.1m in 1995 for a 15-year license, now that’s for 20 years.
The Belgacom cell phone license will be extended for five years at no cost. This is a result of the decision of the Court of Appeal in Brussels. The Belgian Institute for Post and Telecommunications had announced last November that it would not apply an extension to cell phone licenses from Belgacom, Mobistar and Base. Belgacom appealed against it and won. It was the opinion of the regulating authority that the decision had been taken too late and that the cancellation period of two years ran out quite normally last year. The regulating authority had not followed the correct procedure.
