ADAPTIVE NEUROMODULATION

[BIZ/LIFE/SCI: Jülich, March 27]
There is great interest in ANM (Adaptive Neuromodulation GmbH), with its headquarters in Jülich. The company was visited by the president of Germany on March 25. The company has developed new methods for adaptive neuromodulation on the basis of mathematical models. Among these developments is a novel neurological pacemaker for the treatment of patients suffering from Parkinson’s or other neurological diseases. This pacemaker is more conservative and effective than currently available methods. It benefits from knowledge gained in the last few years about the function of the brain and the characteristics of different disease patterns. the brain currents of affected patients can be modulated By means of smooth probes so that symptoms are alleviated or completely eliminated.

Adaptive Neuromodulation GmbH was founded in December 2005 with the objective of making the new demand-controlled methods of neuromodulation available to the growing number of patients suffering from neuronal diseases like Parkinson’s disease or epilepsy. The company has signed an exclusive cooperation contract with the Jülich Research Center and the University of Cologne. Currently ANM is making the first clinical applications of the new modulation system. Market introduction is planned for the year 2009.
