LIDL DC IN WEERT

[BIZ/LOG: Weert, March 19]
The Lidl supermarket chain for the Netherlands and the municipality of Weert have released a joint press release on the construction of a new distribution center for the southeast Netherlands in Weert, in central Limburg. This involves the sale of ten hectares of an industrial site to Lidl at De Kempen business park in Weert. Construction will start in the second half of 2009 with a state-of-the-art distribution center for Lidl’s stores in the Southeast Netherlands. It will mean from the start of 2010, employment for around 200. This will grow to 300 people, largely concerned with logistical activities but also with administrative and commercial activity. The municipality of Weert is working with the Limburg development company, LIOF, on the project which will be worth several tens of millions of euros.

Lidl has also expressed the wish to set up a supermarket in Weert, where there is a need for another discount operation.
