WALLOON SOLAR SURFACES
[BIZ: Liège, June 30] Belgium has a potential solar generating capacity of 410 GW per annum if all potential surfaces in the country were utilized with an investment volume of EUR 3 bn. This would allow carbon offsets of 200,000 tonnes per annum. There is however a difference in the arrangements governing government subsidies between Flanders and the Walloon country: the former providing major subsidies; and, the latter focusing on small-scale private users via the Solwatt plan. Immoquest has listed the area covered by photovoltaic panels, used in logistical and industrial locations in Belgium. The figure amounts to 23.1 million m² for logistical locations to which 1.5 million m² must be added for project sites.
