LIOF KEEPS TSM SHARE
[BIZ: Maastricht, June 25] TSM BV is an initiative of the investors Gosse Boxhoorn, Hubert Thijs, and Jan-Willem Hendriks. They initially received support from DSM LIOF and the Province of Limburg. As a result of the construction of TSM there will be more silicon available.
LIOF will remain a 14.4% shareholder of The Silicon Mine (TSM), the first silicon plant in The Netherlands, at Chemelot in Geleen. In the second financing round last March, Essent and the De Weijerhorst foundation became shareholders by taking over the share packet of Delta. LIOF decided at that time to increase the capital share. TSM will be producing silicon for wafers, which are the raw materials of photovoltaic cells. The construction of the production facility will represent an investment of EUR 400m, and it is expected that TSM will employ 400. In the early phase the plant will produce 3,750 tons of solar-grade silicon annually, 5% of the assumed world market in 2010. In the long run, it’ll be 14,000 tons annually.
