CENTRICA WANTS SPE
[BIZ: Brussels, June 24]
The British gas company Centrica, the parent company of Luminus, already established in Limburg and elsewhere, still wants to exercise its preferential right of purchase, in respect of the Belgian power company SPE. It recently became known that Gaz de France (GdF) wants to sell its interest in SPE to Electricité de France for EUR 515m. However, a bid from Centrica, at the same price level, would disrupt this deal. In the view of Centrica, SPE is vital for the development of its key European platform. According to various sources, EdF has asked Centrica not to exercise its right, in exchange for a part of British Energy, for which the French group is one of the remaining candidates.
