[BIZ/LEI: Genk, June 19] ‘We have been asked by government to adjust our plans and we have done ‘so. We have done this as we were asked and are happy that the city agrees. However, but we won’t start construction until 80% of the area has been let, but the city has given the green light and we have three policy plans for three extra-regional trading areas’, says Wim Dries. One is on the Hasseltweg, another on the Bosdel and the C-mine. They will also be working on traffic management in the area.
10,000 m² of the trading area in the sport and recreation cluster at the Crystal Arena in Genk have already been let, according to Jos Vaessen of KRC Genk. The city government of Genk has approved the plan; and, in September, the provincial government will take the final decision. According the city official responsible for spatial planning, Wim Dries, There is around 40,000m2 of which 15,000m2 are intended for sports business and 25,000m2 for recreation. In the recreational area there will be play areas for children, ‘fitness and also catering facilities.
