PACKAGING TAX

[BIZ: The Hague, June 4]
Through October 1, businesses are not required to present data for a packaging tax to the Dutch tax authorities. Furthermore, Secretary of State Jan Kees de Jager of Finance has said that the tax on packaging is to be made much simpler, according to the Het Financieele Dagblad. De Jager’s statement was received with great satisfaction by the Dutch employers association VNO-NCW. The biggest problems are the various tariffs for different types of packaging, such as paper, plastics, other synthetics and cellophane.

The Ministry of Finance, SMEs in The Netherlands and the VNO-NCW are going to look at ways in which the tax can be linked to existing data from the administration of businesses. The second chamber of the Dutch parliament will be informed about this new tax by July 1. Check the website.
