INTER-NED NEWS

[BIZ/GOV: Düsseldorf, June 2]
The INTER-NED newsletter from Düsseldorf deals with new packaging regulations in Germany, which focuses on recycling, and on competing better with one another to create a ‘win-win’ situation together in the Dutch–German context. It notes that business activity cooled off in April, but that the long term climate remains satisfactory. The ecological design of energy-consuming products will be regulated by law from March 2008 in Germany, in the context of regulations known as EBPG, which use the EU directive for ecological design 2005/32/32 converted into national legislation.

It notes also that solar energy is doing well in Germany but that in The Netherlands there is a reduction in interest. The reason for this is because the Dutch government ended a subsidy program in 2003 which encouraged the purchase of solar panels and collectors for generating solar power. Germany took the opposite approach.

Cross-border cooperation against the MRSA (staphylococcus aureus) bacteria has been undertaken. German VAT must be reclaimed by the end of June.
