MAYERSCHE BOOKSHOP GROWS
[BIZ: Aachen, March 18] The Aachen headquarters is, of course, important to the business, which was founded in 1817 by Jakob Anton Mayer. On September 19, 2002 a new bookshop was opened on the Buchkremerstraße, ‘And now we are happy about the additional space,’ said manager Andrea Weiß, ‘and we’ve got some ideas about what it’s going to look like in 2009’. Mayersche is the leading bookseller in Germany and last year it celebrated 190 years in the business. It has always been a family business. It has 36 branches in North-Rhine Westphalia and employs around 1,000 including 120 trainees.
The Mayersche bookshop in Aachen has become one of the largest in Germany and it’s expected to grow again in the beginning of 2009. The 5,500m2 surface area will have another 1,500m2 on the ground floor and in the basement, and then clients will have 7,000m2 at their disposal. Expansion is possible because an area in the same building, used by other companies, has now become available.
