LIEGE AIRPORT 2007/2008

[BIZ/LOG: Liège, February 2]
Liège Airport, Europe’s 9th biggest cargo airport, has continued to expand across its wide range of activities. A trend that looks likely to be confirmed in 2008 according to budgetary forecasts.

The tonnage passing through Liège Airport reached 489,870 tons, which was a 20.5% increase on 2006. This growth came from the development of cargo operators operating on site and by the arrival of new companies such as VOLGA DNEPR, GIRJET, SOUTHERN AIR and FOCUS AIR.

Passenger activity increased by 8.24% compared with 2006, totaling 332,848 passengers.

For the 2008 summer season, Thomas Cook is offering Bourgas in Bulgaria as a new destination and Jetair is increasing its offering by more than 20% compared to last year.

The Neckermann branch is advertising flights from Liège in its Dutch brochures, while the French subsidiary Aquatour has once again brought out a brochure offering holiday packages only available from Liège Airport.

Tel Aviv Israel is to be a twice weekly destination with Jetairfly – Thursday and Sunday from March 23. There is a promotional offer of just EUR 99.99 for a one-way ticket. This will be the first scheduled, low-cost, medium haul route. The promoters hope to use this route to attract a Belgian, Dutch and German clientele.

With regards to cargo, activity in 2008 should continue to expand thanks to the installation of a cargo hall north of the runways, and due to the expected traffic increase generated by the current operators. Read on at the link.
