SOLLAND SOLAR EXPANDS

[BIZ: Heerlen, January 25]
Solland Solar opened a new production hall at its Avantis site on January 24. Solland Solar is the biggest producer of Solar (photovoltaic) cells in the Netherlands. The expansion means production will triple from around 60 to 170 Megawatts a year. And the plan is to raise this to 500 Megawatts per year in 2010.

Staff and raw materials are needed and plans are afoot to set up a solar academy to train technicians in solar energy technologies. The funding for this training program has not yet been completed, but there is a great deal of interest from business.

Pure silicon is needed and a plant is scheduled to be built in Geleen, which will employ 400 and represent and investment of EUR 500m. Gosse Boxhoorn, President of Solland Solar, says the plant will be operational next year.
