UNUSED BUSINESS SITES

[BIZ: Hasselt, January 24]
POM Limburg, the development company, has taken the initiative to set-up negotiating teams to convince the owners of unused business sites to get their sites back on the market, because POM wants to increase the number of business sites in Belgian Limburg. A first inventory reveals that there are some 780 hectares of unused business sites in the province. In total there are 530 lots; a third of them, 262 hectares, are in the western part of Belgian Limburg, in the Albert Canal economic network, and 183 hectares (70%) belong to large companies. There is a fairly large concentration in Genk too; they range from four to 20 hectares, which means 420 in total. The project will run for three years and will represent an investment of EUR 351,808 including staffing costs, 85% will be subsidized by the Flemish government.
