PEKET PROTECTED

The Walloon gin known as Pékčt is to be a protected designation, as are the words jenever, graanjenever, jonge jenever/genever or oude jenever/genever, which may only be used in Belgium and The Netherlands.

This is one of a number of special designations that are protected in the area, such as Ardennes Ham, butter and cheese from Herve, and paté from Gaume. We shall be discussing local products at some length in later issues.
