DOCMORRIS MOVES TO AVANTIS

The European Internet pharmacy based in Kerkrade is moving its operations to the Avantis cross-border science and business park, between Heerlen and Aachen. It has signed for a 10,000m2 option, where they expect 300 to be employed in the first instance and this is number is expected to grow to 500 by 2012. DocMorris is growing very fast; this year’s revenues were at EUR 200m, up from EUR 170m last year. The move to Avantis was already adumbrated by reports in the Meuse-Rhine Journal in 2003, but now it is about to become a reality.

DocMorris is Europe’s first online pharmacy and has so far been able to overcome the many legal obstacles put in its way. This year the company was taken over by Celesio AG, Europe’s largest pharmaceutical distributor, which is the majority shareholder in DocMorris. The company’s management continues to hold a stake of just under 10 per cent in DocMorris.
