TECHSPACE AERO GREEN PLANES

[BIZ/SCI-TECH: Milmort, December 11]
Techspace Aero of the SAFRAN Group has celebrated the completion of a major module for an aircraft engine which marks the end of a period of research and development of three years. It has involved 100 of the company’s workforce. This research is within the context of the European VITAL program which is concerned with reducing emissions and aircraft noise. It targets innovative architectures and technologies which are breaking through to tomorrow’s green aircraft engines.

The program, which is led by Snecma of the SAFRAN Group, links 53 partners of which the greater part are major players in European aerospace. Snecma (SAFRAN) leads with Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, Avio, Volvo Aero, ITP and Techspace Aero all on the team.

The program in the area of low pressure compression, where Techspace has made a fan module which encompasses a low-pressure turbine and accessory gearbox modules. The technologies developed by Techspace Aero envisage low-pressure compression that is more compact, lighter, and improves aerodynamic performance, while cutting noise and emissions 50% less CO2 and 80% N2O.
