STARTERS STAKE PICOLAS

PicoLAS powers laser diodes and other applications. The firm started as a spin-off at the RWTH University in Aachen and became a limited company (GmbH) in 2005. The High-Tech Starter Fund is investing EUR 500,000 in PicoLAS GmbH. The start-up capital for PicoLAS was offered in a joint venture form, with the Chamber of Commerce in Aachen and the university. It is looking at more broadly-based financing. The business is coached by Professor Malte Brettel. PicoLAS will build semi-conductor systems on the basis of performance which provides a much more compact and more efficient system than is currently available elsewhere.
