PARKSTAD DEVELOPS

Parkstad Limburg is developing, and a presentation was made recently at the Gaia Park Zoo, which we mention again later on, where they had received their millionth visitor in a three year period. An economic policy document was presented there and it was noted that there were many events, including PinkPop, Cultura Nova and the World Music Competition, which attracted 350,000 visitors, and produce revenues of EUR 10m and 50,000 overnight stays. Attractions like Gaia Park, SnowWorld, Mondo Verde, Kasteel Hoensbroek, Industrion (the museum), the South Limburg Steam Train Company and the Woonboulevard shopping area also draw 3.5 million visitors. This means about 5,000 jobs including 30% part-timers. And on top of all this, there is now the Energy Hills development where cross-border cooperation is developing the new energy program in which business, education, intermediary organizations and government are working together.
