SPE INVESTS IN GAS TURBINES

[BIZ/INFRA: Brussels, November 2]
SPE, which is known under its brand name of Luminus, is investing further in production facilities. SPE has a quarter of Belgian families as customers but only represents 9% of Belgium’s electric power production establishment and the company finds this too little. So it’s building gas turbines in Ghent and these should be operational in the short term, supplying 120MW that can help with peak demand in the system. This is an investment of EUR 7m and next year there is to be a further million. SPE wants to build two similar turbines in Angleur but that project has been delayed because of the CO2 offset issues. SPE is also looking at the option of building a 900MW power plant on the Meuse in Visé, an investment of EUR 550m [There is considerable objection to this plant in the neighborhood. ED.]
