ETHIOPIAN CAR, LIMBURG ENGINE

[BIZ: Sittard/Maarheeze, October 23]
Holland Car is producing and distributing cars in Ethiopia. The products meet the special needs of the market. Holland Car plc was established in 2005 and is a joint venture between the Sittard-based Dutch company Trento Engineering BV (50%) and the Ethiopian company Ethio-Holland PLC (50%). Key figures in this project are the Brabant businessman Wim Guns and a refugee entrepreneur, Tadesse Tessema. Tessema runs the plant 65km to the south of Addis Ababa, where the cars are assembled with imported parts and low production costs for Ethiopia, which is a low wage country. Several dozen cars of the first prototype have been sold and Holland Car expects to produce 100 next year. A contract has been signed with the Chinese company Lifan.
