Through 2020 there will be a need for 75,000 new pilots. Ryanair alone takes on 300 new pilots every year, Lufthansa takes 50 and Air Berlin 10. Maastricht’s new Stella Aviation Academy is currently training 300 pilots annually as airline pilots. It’s a two-year course: 150 pilots will graduate annually. This is the biggest flying school in The Netherlands. The pressure on the labor market is so great, that companies try to get whole classes of pilots from Stella. Stella Aviation hopes that Maastricht Aachen Airport, will get more foreign students in the long run, because they want to train 200 students per year in Limburg.
