PARKSTAD MAGAZINE

[BIZ/MEDIA: Heerlen, October 2]
Highlights in the most recent Parkstad magazine are the opportunities of Parkstad as a shopping center and a clear view of the retail industry. The mayor of Sittard-Geleen has a feeling for Parkstad; Sjraar Cox was actually a proponent of a link with Parkstad but the last debate in the council on this subject decided otherwise. Actually, Parkstad has to be seen as an integrated living area.

Also highlighted was Licom, which provides integrated services in the labor market and employment for disabled mine workers. It was used by so many miners that it was decided to create additional companies. This led to Licom.

Arcus College (another topic) is getting on with its educational role. It has 9,000 course members and around 700 staff. Arcus is the biggest education provider in Parkstad. In 2010 Arcus moved to a spot that suited its particular status, the Arcus Campus. This is 25,000m2 on the Valkenburgerweg in Heerlen.

The identity of the suburbs or outlying areas is another issue. This is a strong point in Parkstad and their identity is probably a relic of the mining era. The Parkstad Development Company did some research into the specific opportunities and characteristics of Parkstad and this is all to be found in the magazine.
