BIOWANZE MEANS BIOETHANOL
[BIZ: Liège, September 22] Production is envisaged for the second half of 2008, and on completion it will be the most environment-friendly plant of its type in Europe. It’s been pointed out that the manufacture of bioethanol also produces a by product which has an economic value — the left-over wheat can be used for cattle — and mass produces more electricity, than is required, so the excess can be used to heat the public swimming pool or the buildings in the community. The German group Südzucker, which is the owner of the Tirlemontoise Refinery, will also be producing 175 million liters for export. The plant is going to use 800,000 tons of wheat and 400,000 tons of beets, which will be brought in by truck and the wheat by boat.
The Biowanze factory they will be producing their first liters of bioethanol next year. The work is progressing; the factory is being built on a modular basis and at the side of the Père Pire bridge. One can see a structure arising in a metallic blue, the skeleton of the biomass-producing furnace and the source of the energy. The contractors are the De Smet engineering company and civil engineers Galère.
