EIFEL TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

[BIZ/GOV: Aachen Region/Eifel, September 21]
The Eifel, an attractive recreational area on Germany’s western borders, is going to work on technology transfer. AGIT, the Aachen economic development agency, is going to work with the three Eifel districts in North-Rhine Westphalia on a technology transfer project, bringing business in contact with the universities and colleges. ‘The idea is to get people together’, says Marion Großschopf, who leads the project for AGIT. ‘The engineering companies in Monschau or Hellenthal should have the option of talking with a professor in Aachen about a specific problem and the academics in Aachen can learn about the business options in the Eifel — because innovative business can go in many directions.’ This will give shape to the EifelTEC project.

There is another target group, and these are the students and graduates of the Aachen University and the colleges. There are graduates who complete their studies and then move far away, whereas perhaps they could be kept closer to home.

The project started on September 21 in the context of an annual Eifel Forum that takes place at the HIMO Innovation Center in Monschau. Businesses and students from the Eifel and representatives of the specialist colleges in Aachen can show how uncomplicated and effective a transfer of knowledge can be.
