LICHTENBUSCH
[BIZ: Lichtenbusch, August 28] Twenty thousand truck and 8,000 cars pass the border at Lichtenbusch every day and the future indicates there will be a considerable increase. Through 2020 there will be a 50% increase in private vehicles and an 80% increase in trucks. On the gas station side, the operator Total deals with 600 cars a day, and then there is the truck traffic. Seventy percent of those traveling also visit the building. In another report it is noted that Michel Daerden, the Walloon minister, hopes that the highway crossing area at Lichtenbusch will contribute to economic progress. He recently opened a EUR 12m structure. On each side of the highway there is a service station and there is a pedestrian bridge’; a restaurant and hotel are also available. Soon the German-speaking community will be providing information about tourism. It is hoped that new business will settle at the crossing.
The Walloon regional government and the German-speaking community have decided soon to open an information office for business and tourism at the Lichtenbusch border crossing between Belgium and Germany. The Bureau will be run by the German-speaking community together with the Province of Liège, and the Walloon Region DG is responsible for questions of staffing. In the context of the upgrading of the highway rest spaces, the Walloon region is adding a regional shop window to the information bureau to complete the supply of information.
