[BIZ: Hasselt, July 16] Clavis’ core activity is the publication of Dutch-language children’s books for the Flemish and Dutch markets. Clavis has its head office in Hasselt. It’s a family business which was initially set up under the name of Poespas in 1978 and Clavis in 1981. In 2001 it opened an office in Amsterdam. Over a period of 20 years, Clavis has become the market leader in Flanders. In 2000 it published around 80 books and in 2007 there were 150 new titles for the Dutch-language market and 50 re-issues of existing titles, around 50 B2B projects and 150 co-editions with foreign publishers. Clavis’ revenues rose from EUR 1.3m in 1997 to EUR 4.3m in 2006; 40% of the revenues came from beyond Flanders.
LRM, the Limburg (B) development company, is increasing its stake in the children’s book publisher Clavis by EUR 250,000. This is half of the capital required by Clavis to strengthen its international structure to raise its profile abroad. LRM took a stake on May 30, 2005 for the first time in Clavis Media BV and received 33.33% of its shares.
