[BIZ: Liège, June 20]
Charles Ledent writes in La Meuse that the Liège media city in Longdoz scheduled to open in the fall of 2009, will include the RTBF broadcasting studios covering 17,000 m2 with a basement and six stories, representing an investment of EUR 25m for the infrastructure and EUR 40m for technology. The broadcasting studio alone will be 1200 m2. Other buildings will be an Olympic skating rink, which will be behind the cinemas, 60 meters by 30 with space for 1200 spectators representing an investment of EUR 8m. There will also be a cinema complex, with eight separate units, a shopping gallery and an additional major shopping area. There will also be bowling and fitness facilities.

The RTBF Liège building is being designed by Pilote Aarchi 2000. The building will open out onto a Piazza. In the long term it is expected to employ 320. The broadcasting center should start construction by the fall of 2008 and be operational by December 31 2009. The media city is being designed by the London based Israeli architect Ron Arad, who has exhibited in the MOMA in New York City. He is quoted as being influenced by images of the spinal column and the river in his design. Mr Arad has been contracted by Wilhelm and Co.
