PORT LIMBURG

[BIZ: Hasselt, June 12]
The VIL study ‘The Limburg Logistical Port’ has started something moving in Belgian Limburg. The objective of this study was to set up a plan for Limburg and its implementation, which would turn ongoing developments into a seamless sequence. In the meantime, the Province of Limburg has chosen a major plan with the stages proposed in the study and rigorously implemented.

One of the actions is to set up the Limburg Logistical Platform to provide a logistical memory in the province and to establish synergies. This platform would then have the job of supporting the logistical clusters or hotspots already identified (see below) and promoting them with the VIL (the Logistical Research Organization) as background. The model for the Limburg Logistical Port with five logistical hotspots is a concrete form of the idea of Flanders’ Extended Gateway®.

The clusters of activities and the bundling of the supply chain would be pivotal and VIL will play a role in further facilitating the cooperative trajectories in close cooperation with the Limburg Logistical Platform.

The clusters are:

Central Limburg: Genk, Opglabbeek, Diepenbeek, Zutendaal and Bilzen;
North Limburg: Lommel, Overpelt (and Mol)
West Limburg: Lummen, Beringen, Ham and Tessenderlo
East Limburg: Lanaken
South Limburg: Tongres
