CORIOMOSA: LIMBURG WINE

[BIZ: Vaals, June 10]
Although Gelderland has stolen the march on Limburg as the leading wine-producing province in The Netherlands, Limburg does have 38 wine producers and they’re producing good wine. With the climate changing towards that of Burgundy 150 years ago and focus on wellness and health in the region, wine is the center of attention. A new wine was presented at Chateau Vaalsbroek in the presence of the minister Maria van der Hoeven and the new mayor of Valkenburg, Martin Eurlings.

There is a lot going on in the Limburg wine front, with specialists like Stan Beurskens of St Martinus Vijlen, Pieter Pelzer of Domain Aldenborgh Eys, Henk Stiekema from Hoeve Roosendael in Reuver and Renee van Dreunen, Boekenderhof Maastricht, and Marcel and Carmel Soomers of Wijngoed Fromberg in Ubachsberg.

Among the interesting grape varieties that are being harvested at St Martinus, for example, are the Johanniter, the Cabinet Cortis from Germany, Acolon, also from Germany, Pinotin from Switzerland and Regent from Germany.

It’s getting interesting in the Limburg wine country and they are going to be Limburg wine tours on an annual basis, like the Savarin Tour and the presentation of the CorioMosa Cuvee each year. Keep your eyes open!

This year, too, there was a prize-winning label for the new wine. The prize was presented to the designer, Yolanda Bovens of Maastricht.
