Maastricht hotelier Benoît Wesly has presented a plan to the mayor and council of Maastricht for a major theatre with a wellness center on the northern side of the Geusselt on the A2 highway as it enters Maastricht. The project will require an investment of EUR 85m and should provide 200 new jobs for the less-well qualified. Currently the City is also negotiating with Van den Ende, who has similar plans, and there is also the ongoing contact with Harrah’s Casino; and there have been reports, in De Ster newspaper, of interest by the Hilton Hotel group too. The theater would show long-running English-language productions and have 1,600 seats. Mr Wesly believes that this would fit in with the already existing plans.
