ELECTRABEL-CUMERIO IN BULGARIA

[BIZ/INFRA: Brussels, June 7]
The Belgian power company Electrabel and the copper processor Cumerio have an interest in the Bulgarian nuclear power station at Belene. The Belgian combine is part of a group of ten candidates who have officially declared their interest to the Bulgarian government. The Bulgarian government would like to sell a maximum of 49% in the new power station.

Cumerio has a major production site in Pirdop in Bulgaria and is considering a long-term contract with the power station. A major financial participation in the power station is, however, not on the agenda. As far as Electrabel is concerned, the Bulgarian nuclear power station is within its international plans. The Bulgarian government will be taking a decision from among the various candidates next year.
