KYTOZYME EUR 9.5 M UNIT

[BIZ/LIFE-SCI: Liège, June 2]
The foundation stone for a new KitoZyme production plant, an investment of EUR 9.5 million, was laid in the presence of Walloon ministers Marie-Dominique Simonet and Jean-Claude Marcourt. The investment will produce a further 50 jobs. KytoZyme, a Liège University spin-off, started producing vegetal biopolymers at the end of the year 2000. Primary markets were: medical, cosmetic, nutraceutical and food. It has a unique technology which is patented and environment friendly.

The new plant in the Hauts-Sarts business park will cover 4,000 m2 and will be involved in the large scale production of vegetal ingredients which are innovative, environment friendly and target the cosmetics and food supplement market. There will also be a state-of-the-art lab, a unit for value-added co-products and 600 m2 of office space.

The company’s products are vegetal, not animal-derived. They are high purity, zero endotoxin and have a low bio-burden. There is no risk of allergies; they are standard, consistent and traceable products, with excellent control of the molecular characteristics. These new vegetable polymers formulate viscous solutions gel, films, foams and beads for wound treatment, skin care, wine fining and dietary supplements.
