THE QUALITY OF HAM

Minister of Agriculture Benoit Lutgen is advocating the production of top quality pork. In a visit with the Flemish Prime Minister Yves Leterme in Bastogne he said that Ardennes ham should be upgraded to make it a true premium product. Pig farming centers should, however, be run along ecological lines and not put the quality of life of the neighborhood at a disadvantage. In the Walloon region only 10% of the pork consumption is covered by local production.
