MECOM TO EXPAND IN NL

The Mecom Group plc, which already owns the Media Group Limburg (for which it paid EUR 200m), now wants to take over the Wegener newspaper company, which publishes regional papers in The Netherlands, for EUR 800m. The company also has papers in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Sweden and the Ukraine, in addition to its holdings in The Netherlands, and recently invested EUR 1bn in Scandinavia and The Netherlands. Wegener is the largest regional daily publisher of door-to-door papers in The Netherlands and had revenues of EUR 744m in 2006. Wegener also develops and operates Internet products and services and provides graphic products and services.
