BOSAL TO MAKE STEEL

Bosal, the Lummen manufacturer of exhaust systems has decided to produce its own steel. It’s a major steel consumer, producing 90 million pipes annually. This statement is made by Karel Bos at the Trends Inside Lunch discussion. Steel prices in recent years, as a result of the enormous mergers, have risen too much to be accidental, said Bos, particularly the merger between Arcelor and Mittal has been responsible for an enormous rise in prices. ‘After each consolidation there is an increase in prices that is too noticeable to be coincidental. Modern technologies allow steel to be produced in other ways and that’s what we want to invest in,’ said Bos. Bosal has revenues of EUR 670m annually, employs 6,500, has 42 plants and 27 distribution centers.
